After noticing a sharp rise in investment by Australian businessmen in Thailand in recent years, Industry Minister Charnchai Chairungrueng will conduct a roadshow in Australia this week as well as opening an investment office in Sydney.
Mr. Charnchai said he will lead a Thai delegation for a six-day visit, starting Monday, to Brisbane, Melbourne and Sydney where he will conduct seminars and meet executives of leading firms there in an attempt to persuade them to invest in Thailand.
Investment by Australians in Thailand has sharply risen since the two countries signed a free trade agreement in 2005.
Australian investment in the kingdom receiving promotional privileges from the Thai government’s Board of Investment (BoI) soared to Bt3.195 billion in 2008 from Bt514 million in 2006.
Atchaka Brimble, secretary-general of BoI, said Board of Investment will also open an office in Sydney during the trip.
She said the Thai government wants Australian businessmen to invest on food, alternative energy, mining, vehicle parts and machinery industries in Thailand. (TNA)
